Rooted in Nutrients

Rooted in Nutrients

There are plenty of plants that stand out as a useful ingredient in meals, and that can easily become part of a healthy diet. There are a diverse group of roots, separated in the general root plants and root vegetables. These plants are diverse in taste and nutrients, ranging from beets to, our personal favorite, the licorice root. Some of these root plants include garlic, onions, green onions, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, and water chestnut. Each plant overall produces a vegetable or root that carries their own strong flavors. These diverse flavors can be used in many contexts, and in different forms. From a sweet drink, to a tasty dinner, your meals can entirely consist of root plants. Here are some nutrients that a lot of the root plants carry:

  • Potassium: This is the counterpart to sodium, in charge of maintaining liquids within our cells, while sodium maintains liquid outside of our cells.
  • Folate: Breaking down amino acids, folate can keep you healthy and allow for healthy growth within the body.
  • Glycyrrhizin: this is the main ingredient within licorice root, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties when consumed in healthy amounts.

We hope you enjoyed reading about the many nutrients within root plants. Try our favorite root, the licorice candy. There’s many different forms to choose from, sweet Australian licorice, to Finnish smooth licorice, to even salty licorice. We offer 50+ flavors, with sampler packs for you to choose from, and gift boxes to match any occasion. Check out licorice.com products today!
